I've read that depression and insomnia are linked. I've started taking melatonin and b vitamins. I admit, however, that my poor sleeping habits could be remedied if I stopped playing video games at night after work. The thing, after work, I also feel the urge to do something "fun" otherwise I regret having done nothing but worked the whole day.

I take 5-HTP to help me sleep. Its a natural chemical that converts into serotonin. This also helps with depression.

I've been having insomnia for the past month, I am not exactly sure what the exact cause of it is. I think being out of work for so long is a big part of it (job hunting), which falls back on depression and stress.

I'm in the same boat, I try to sleep but have all these worried thoughts in my head as to what I am going to do the next day, being unemployed and and annoyed that I am not more assertive. The thought of getting an interview terrifies me as well as the fact that I am at home drowning in anxiety, waiting for the phone to ring.
I often have to get up and switch the t.v on between 2 and 4 in the morning. Watching endless adds for exercise equipment and facial creams. Then I decide that I must be hungry, eventually thinking that I had better try to get some sleep I finally doze off only to be woken a couple of hours later by the traffic starting up for work and having to get up anyway to see my daughter and husband off for the day.I can't sleep later when they have gone because I am to worried In case the neighbors think I'm lazy or that I might get a phone call at any time from a job that I have applied for online. My favorite computer games are adventure and escape games.I have to escape at least once a day!

Exercise can be an effective way of treating insomnia. In my case I used to have trouble getting to sleep every night and every couple of months I would go two or three nights in a row getting only a couple of hours of sleep. About two years ago I started running seriously (I'm currently training for my second marathon <--- look at me showing off Smile ) and I've had no problems sleeping since.

Another positive effect of exercise is that it can help with depression, it hasn't done this for me but there are studies showing it can help.

There was another unexpected positive outcome for me. Sometimes I just start crying, sometimes I know why, sometimes I don't. When I first started running if I was having a bad day I couldn't run when I was all choked up, now though it has a calming effect on me and I can actually think about things that will usually upset me and think about them more clearly.

5HTP has helped me a great deal as well. Also, what I have found is to go to bed on a full stomach. I am a very active individual and have to be constantly be eating, I noticed that my mal-nutrition has been affecting proper sleeping for me.

these are steroids i think... it will decrease the depression but on the other hand too much use will lead to obesity....

I’ve been suffering from insomnia during pregnancy for a couple months now and I want to know what the easiest way to cure insomnia during pregnancy is. I’ve taken those herbal remedies like Sleep-MD and they don’t seem to be much of a cure for insomnia. So what are my best options for curing insomnia during pregnancy?

There are a number of factors in diet that can contribute to insomnia, probably much more than most people think. Caffeine, at any time of the day, can interfere with the ability to fall asleep and can also affect the sleep cycle so that sleep is of a poorer quality and is unrefreshing.
