~when you are the complete oposite of yourself when you drink
~when you can't do anything you want to do b/c your too scared
~when you don't have a single real friend and the closest person to you is just an aquaintance
~when you are like 20 like me and have never been kissed or had a boyfriend |

... you're like a nervous bird at traffic lights, wondering what people are thinking.
... you leave college because you can't handle the social issues.
... you drive an hour and half out of the way to shop where you don't know anyone.
... you ate your high school lunch in the bathroom if you even managed to go that day.
... you spend quality time in your local ER's parking lot, wanting to be close by if your panic attack gets worse.
... your sessions with a therapist were so awkward and difficut that you gave up.
... the "self-checkout" lane in grocery stores and other automated interactions (ordering online, etc.) are a relief.
... you get ready for two hours just to check the mail, then berate yourself for walking "strangely" to the mailbox. |

When going to a social event is already causing you fear and anxiety two weeks beforehand
When you would rather lay in a pit of snakes than be at a huge social event for ten minutes. |

I know, just came back from a dinner party... horrifying to say the least!!!!
(I've known about this 'party' for about 2 weeks, and haven't been able to sleep or perform well since then).
My problem is when I'm in this kind of situation, I almost say too much, making myself feel stupid and then I spend hours (it's been three hours since, and no sleep) wondering what exactly I said and how it may or may not affect what people think about me....
I'm really, really happy to find that I'm not the only one with this problem, though! |

exactly how I feel. I missed my grandpas birthday party (I faked sick) because it makes me so nervous to be around my OWN extended family. |

I understand completely as well! I have an uncle who never lets anything go. If you misprounounce something, state a fact wrong etc. I was always so afraid that I'd say something stupid, and he'd make it into a big family joke that would be brought up over and over at every family event. He's lightened up a little, but sometimes he still goes overboard.
Also, you know you have SA if when you finally manage to go to the grocery store on your own, the first thing you do when you get home is jump up and down and scream. _________________ "Remember that no one can make you feel inferior without your consent." -Eleanor Roosevelt |
