What do you think of my idea to create an "unmoderated" social anxiety discussion forum, which you can find here:
http://socialanxietyforums.com/social-anxiety-discussion-unmoderated-f25.html
Do you think it will get activity? Or do I need a activity first to get activity (catch 22)?
I also made a google adwords campaign. Did you happen to see my adwords ad? I'm wondering if paying for that is worth it. Adwords are text ads (see the bottom of this forum for an example). _________________ Read the advertisement rules:

| I've had this site for about 1 year. Not sure how long it will take to get active - maybe 2 more years >< |

What you could think about doing is somehow finding a way to lure people from that "other" forum.
Or, we could somehow encourage a different culture here. I've been on some "other" sites for the past week (especially the MAJOR "other" SA forum), and I believe the negativity is beginning to wear thin on me.
From what I see so far here, the few members passing by here have tried to focus more on a pro-active and analytic approach rather than complaints. The problem with this is that this specifically appeals more to older people while younger people tend to like to vent. |

If you have any mates then let them know about this site. However, don't blatently advertise on competitor sites since they will likely get pissed off if you do. You can tell people via email, msn or even via private message on forums.

What sort of culture do you have in mind, and how would we encourage it?
I was thinking of trying to differentiate this site from others; the first differentiating factor that I think is a selling point is the new Unmoderated forum. In most other sites they have a rule like: "we can edit/delete/lock your posts without giving you any reason". I get pissed off when that rule gets enforced. Ofcourse, this forum has a moderated forum (the one I'm posting in now) for those of us who enjoy such an atmosphere - so you have a choice.
As for the target age group - what you told me is news to me. I thought that older people like to vent just as much as younger people. If what you say is true, then that is a group of people that I might have to target. However, I think we do already have some young people on here, especially since they have more time to post.
I also read your post in the Unmoderated forum. It was a good post. |

Are you a student, Josh?
I just remembered something. A guy at my college wanted to promote his MySpace-like website, and ended up very successful, attracting a lot of attention and members to his site (it's not up anymore, though. I believe he had more activity on his site than he expected, and couldn't find time to handle it all)
He did this by putting up flyers and posters all over campus advertising his site. Now, I BELIEVE that there is probably a fairly substantial population of students in EVERY college who have some sort of social anxiety.
If you know of a college or ARE a student of some college, you could print out some flyers promoting your site. |

| No I'm not a student and I just graduated last year. I don't think I would be allowed to advertise like that even if I as at university. I would feel very self conscious about putting those ads up too. But it would probably work. |
